New JOHNFORD SL-600A+C+Y | Horizontal Turning Center

Description

The Johnford SL-600A is a heavy duty, high precision CNC turning center cast from Meehanite iron. In fact, it is the heaviest machine built machine on the market today! Full advantage of the 35HP spindle motor and 2 speed gear box is taken by the rigid slant bed design. Built in classic style, the true 45 degree slant bed is a torque tube design. The torque tube, or hole cast through the center of the slant bed, provides an extremely rigid bed and excellent heat dissipation. The square box ways provide the rigidity for heavy duty turning. Hand scraped Turcite - B applied to all mating sliding surfaces ensures high rapid traverse rates and accurate positioning. To ensure precision and thermal stability the headstock, tailstock, and saddle are all mounted on the same plane at a 45 degree angle. The coolant tank is separate from the machine base to prevent heat transfer from the coolant to the machine casting which ensures precision and promotes easy clean out and maintenance. To further ensure accuracy and precision, the ballscrews are double nut type and pretensioned to eliminate thermal growth.

The precision spindle structure is mounted using precision double row roller bearings in conjunction with angular contact ball bearings for high rigidity and accuracy. The spindle quill inner and outer linings are precision ground for fit with the spindle, thus ensuring extreme concentricity and accuracy. The spindle is driven by a 35HP high torque motor which provides plenty of power. For applications requiring high torque at low RPM’s, a two speed gear box is standard.

A massive 12 station hydraulic turret with 1.25” square shank / 2” I.D. tooling or optional BMT servo live tool turret provides fast indexing as well as coolant through the tool holders. A full C axis with live tools is available for applications requiring milling operations. An optional true Y axis provides 3 axis milling ability when combined with the C axis option. Our Y axis is a true linear Y axis, perpendicular to the X axis, as opposed to theoretical Y axis on a wedge type machines. Fanuc CNC controllers are standard for industry leading performance and reliability.
