Description

The Johnford DMC-2100H is the heaviest double column machining center in its class. With standard accessories, this heavy duty 35 HP fixed double column vertical machining center, weighs in at 52,000 lbs. of Meehanite cast iron. The machine design features a moving table and fixed column for maximum rigidity. A rugged 90 degree bridge with offset Y axis ways and a massive 40” wide saddle keeps the spindle center line extremely close to the bridge for rigidity. This design also allow for more distance across the Y axis ways for best support of the massive headstock. The bridge and columns are a one piece casting for best rigidity.

The massive Z axis head and Y axis saddle features square box ways coated with Turcite and have been designed with diagonally arranged ribs that will help reduce the amount of distortion that is caused by years of continued service. The X axis table traverse is accomplished via heavy duty Schneeberger roller linear ways for accurate positioning of heavy work pieces. Accurate positioning is carried out by large diameter, pre-tensioned ballscrews and powerful servo motors.

The 90mm spindle is driven by a 35HP, 2 speed geared spindle drive that delivers outstanding cutting performance at any RPM. The spindle is oil cooled for minimal thermal growth. A 6000 RPM spindle driven by a 2 speed gear box and producing 488 ft./lbs. of torque is standard. For high speed machining, both a 35HP 10,000 RPM direct drive spindle or a Weiss integral spindle is available as an option. The 110mm Weiss spindle produces 15,000 RPM and 56HP with excellent low end torque and utilizes HSK-100A tooling for best rigidity and tool life.

An impressive list of standard features includes a heavy duty 40 tool arm type ATC that is mounted to the machine column for easy maintenance, a chip removal system consisting of 2 screw type conveyors on each side of table that discharge into a caterpillar type conveyor at the end of the machine, a high volume coolant system, and a full machine enclosure (including the top) to contain chips and coolant. Your choice of Fanuc controls provides the ideal combination for all types of applications. The Fanuc OiM-F Plus is standard for most job shop and light mold applications. The Fanuc 31iMB is available for high speed, high accuracy mold and die machining. Both controls feature the new Alpha I servo system with 1,000,000 pulse encoders.
