

The Johnford DMC-4100PH is the heaviest double column machining center in its class. With standard accessories, this heavy duty 35 HP fixed double column vertical machining center, weighs in at 90,200 lbs. of Meehanite cast iron. The machine design features a moving table and fixed column for maximum rigidity. A rugged 90 degree bridge with offset Y axis ways and a massive 37.3” x 39.4” saddle keeps the spindle center line extremely close to the bridge for rigidity. This design also allows for more distance across the Y axis ways for best support of the massive headstock.
The massive Z axis head features square box ways coated with Turcite and has been designed with diagonally arranged ribs that will help reduce the amount of distortion that is caused by years of continued service. The Y axis is available in your choice of rigid box ways or rigid roller type linear ways. The X axis table traverse is accomplished via Schneeberger heavy duty roller type linear ways for accurate positioning of heavy work pieces. The accurate positioning is carried out by large diameter, pretensioned ballscrews and powerful servo motors. The X axis ballscrew is stationary and uses a spinning ball nut to position the table, eliminating ballscrew whip and minimizing vibration.
The 90mm spindle is driven by a 35HP, 2 speed geared spindle drive that delivers outstanding cutting performance at any RPM. The spindle is oil cooled for minimal thermal growth. A 6000 RPM spindle driven by a 2 speed gear box and producing 488 ft./lbs. of torque is standard. For high speed machining, both a 35HP 10,000 RPM direct drive spindle or a Weiss integral spindle is available as an option A Weiss integral spindle is available as an option. The 110mm Weiss spindle produces 15,000 RPM and 56HP with excellent low end torque and utilizes HSK-100A tooling for best rigidity and tool life.
An impressive list of standard features includes a heavy duty 40 tool arm type ATC for ample tool storage, a complete chip removal system consisting of 2 screw type conveyors on each side of table empty into a lift up type conveyor at the end to discharge into a hopper, a high volume coolant system, and guarding around the table to contain chips and coolant.

The Fanuc 31iM-B Plus with all new alpha I series servo motors is available for the high speed, high accuracy mold and die machining.
